In Shijo Kawaramachi at the Center of Kyoto
The grand opening of a new style of Japanese hot spring hotel, the Shijo Kawaramachi Hot Spring Sora Niwa Terrace Kyoto Hotel, took place on September 20th.

A source of hot spring water was excavated one-minute walk south from the intersection of Shijo Dori and Kawaramachi Dori, and after approximately five years of construction work, this gave birth to a new style of Japanese hot spring hotel, the Shijo Kawaramachi Hot Spring Sora Niwa Terrace Kyoto Hotel.

The Sora Niwa Terrace rooftop lounge situated thirty-one meters above ground level will allow guests to enjoy a different world as time passes by as they gaze at the various scenic views of the Higashiyama mountain range and the flow of the Kamogawa River while soaking their feet in the foot bath available.

The Yasaka no Yu open-air bath and Niwa no Yu bath on the top floor are open-air baths fed by the source of hot spring waters.

The spring water consists of chloride spring waters that boast clear and soft water. It also contains abundant quantities of magnesium, which is extremely effective in alleviating fatigue due to its relaxing qualities for enhancing metabolism and encouraging deeper sleep. The magnesium is also absorbed into the cells of the skin, which increases the expectations of improved skin conditions.

The water is not too hot, and these effects will be increased by staying in the bath for longer periods.

The baths alternate between men-only and ladies-only at night and in the morning, so it is possible to experience being soothed by both of these different types of open-air baths.
